Unit 12: The Asian Games
Lesson B - Speaking
I. Objectives:
1. Education aims: Students can develop their speaking skill by talking about the Asian Games
2. Skills: Working in pairs and in groups to talk about the sport games
II. Anticipated problems: Sts may not have enough vocabulary to talk about the topic
III. Teaching aids:Textbook, chalk, board.

Warm-up:
(5 minutes)
Game: Stop the bus
- Divide the class into two groups
- Draw 2 lines on the BB and label them with 2 categories

Country:
Sport:
- Give sts a letter from the alphabet
- For example: letter M. As posible as they should think ò a word connected with each category beginning letter M
*Country: Malysia
*Sport: Mountain biking
- The first group to write down one word of category should shout "stop the bus"
* Lead in:
- What asian countries have taken part in the asian games?
- What sports have been introduced in the games?
→ Today we will know more information about the asian games
- Work in groups
- Find the words
- The group that can say out the right word first will shout "stop the bus"
* suggested answer:
T: Thailand - Table tennis
P: Philipines - Ping pong
B: Brunei - Basket ball
S: Singapore- Snookers
- Listen to the teacher

Pre- Speaking:
(10 minutes)
1. Finding the countries and sports
- Ask sts to work in group of 5 to find the countries and sports that taken place in the asian games
- 2 groups find the countries and the other find the sports
- Call on sts to write down on the BB
- Ask sts to open the book to check again
2. Eliciting:
- Ask sts to look at the dialogue on page 139
- Elicite the language from sts
* Useful Language:
+ Use past simple tense to talk
+ Passive voice can be used to talk about the year the Asian Games took place
@ Ex: The Asian Games were held in 1951

1. Repetition and substitution
- Ss work in pair to practice the dialogue
- Call on some pair to act out
- Instruction: You are going to ask and answer the questions about the Asian Games , using the information from the table.
- Ask Ss to read the information carefully and work in pairs.
- Ask some pairs to act out the model
A: Where and when were the 2nd Asian Games held?
B: They were held in 1954 in Philippines.
A: How many countries took part in the Games?
B: Eighteen
A: How many sports were there at the games?
B: Eight
- Move around to observe.
- Ask Ss to practice in pairs in front of the class.
- Feedback
2. Task 2:
Aims: Sts can take turns talking about the sports results of the Vietnamese athletes at the 14th Asian Games, using the information from the table in the book.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to do the task.
- Move round to help if necessary.
- Ask some pairs to answer in front of the class.
- Give comments and corrective feedback
Model:
A: In which sport did Vietnamese athletes won medals?
B: Bodybuilding, Billiards, Karatedo, Shooting, Wushu.
A: How many medals did they win?
B: 10 medals.
A: In which sport did Vietnamese athletes win 2 gold and 1 bronze medals?.
B: Karatedo
